Greensboro, NC -- Employment agency Manpower released its Employment Outlook Survey for the second quarter of 2010 and it holds a lot of good news for the Piedmont.
The company expects employers will hire at a steady pace during the months of April through June.
In the Greensboro/High Point market, Manpower reports 14 percent of the employers it interviewed plan to hire more employees during the second quarter, while six percent plan to reduce their workforce. Another 77 percent plan to maintain their current staffing levels, while three percent were not sure of their hiring plans. Manpower report that yields a "net employment outlook" of eight percent.
The news is even better in the Winston-Salem market. Eighteen percent of employers Manpower interviewed plan to hire between April and June. Only eight percent plan to cut payrolls. The majority, 69 percent, plan to maintain current staffing levels, while five percent reported as unsure of their staffing plans.
The data shows small hiring increases over the first quarter of 2010 and significant hiring gains over the same time one year ago. Manpower spokeswoman Lisha Akers says growth in the financial and mortgage industries is fueling Winston-Salem's position as the Triad's job growth hot spot.
Data also point to good job prospects in Alamance County, Akers said. Most job gains there will be in temporary work, but Akers believe some of those positions could turn in to full-time, permanent work.
Despite all the good news, however, Akers says one sector will continue to struggle.
"I think the only sector that we're going to see that isn't going to ... ramp up as quickly is construction," Akers said. "Construction is still hurting. It's about 12 percent down. But you never know. In the summer, that might change because sometimes seasonally, we have some change."
