Davidson County, NC -- Crews continue to clean up the mess left by overturned tractor-trailer carrying hazardous material.

The tanker flipped over on Highway 150 near Hoover Road around 8:00 Tuesday morning. Hazmat was called to the scene due to the leak.

Original reports indicated the chemical inside the tanker was gas, but investigators now say it was carrying four chemicals. They include Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Ethyl Acetate, Ethanol and Toluene. Officials are most worried about Toluene because it's highly flammable.

A dozen houses and about six businesses within 1,000 feet of the crash area were evacuated.

Crews drilled into the tanker and emptied the chemicals into another tank.

The next step is for the EPA and the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources to dig up the dirt in the area, which Lowe said was about 10 or 15 feet.

The driver was not injured and was not transported. The truck is way driving is owned by Quality Transport. The chemical was being transported for Ashland Chemical.

One lane of Highway 150 will remain open through the morning rushhour, but crews may need to close the highway again while environmental crews tests the soil.
